At the moment 15th Essendon members part take in Rover though the Moonee Valley Scout District Rover Crew, Known As the Keith Farquhar Rover Crew
Rovers are the final section of the Scout Association for youth members aged between 18 and 26. Rovers offers an opportunity for fun, adventure and service to the Scout Association and the wider community
The KEITH FARQUHAR ROVER CREW meet on a Friday night at the 'Rover Den' of the 1st Strathmore Scout Centre, Located at 138 Lebanon St, Strathmore. However most weeks we are enjoying activities that take us away from the hall.
What does the Crew do? The Crew has a very varied program from week to week. A typical month might include things like going to the movies, going away for the weekend, playing volleyball against another Crew, or going out to see a band. Every month we have a formal business meeting to make decisions and plan the next few month's activities. Many activities are organized by the Branch or Region Rover Councils on an annual basis. Some of the more important ones are outlined below.
Surfmoot: Australia Day weekend Surf camp with sun, sand, and surf, formerly held at Anglesea, now held at Phillip Island. Along with Mudbash, one of the most important events on the Rover calendar. Hoadley Hide; Easter; Venturer competition hike, where each Rover Crew plans and runs an activity such as an obstacle course or first-aid activity. The theme for 2004 was Good Vs Evil and in 2005 will be 'Ships and Ports'. Winter Games; May to October Sports competition with games such as volleyball, continuous cricket, and a fairly lethal version of poison ball. Designed to get Rover Crews to visit one another. There's a Region final in August, and a Branch final in October. Mudbash: Queen's Birthday weekend; Car rally and camp. Most Rover Crews in Victoria have a car which they take to Mafeking Park near Yea to compete in races, obstacle courses, etc.. Metropolitan Area Rover Ball: late July; Fancy-dress dinner and ball normally held at a Town Hall. The theme in 2004 was 'I've Got the Music In Me'.
You're Challenge Awaits All you need do is accept. You've seen what it takes. A sense of adventure. Physical fitness. Commitment. Unselfishness. Character. And Concern.
